The company was founded in 1839. It was originally founded under the name Patek, Czapek & Cie by Antoine Norbert de Patek and François Czapek.

Adrien Philippe joins Patek and Antoine in 1845. Finally, in 1851, the company name becomes Patek, Philippe & Cie – Fabricants à Genève.
